Opal Kelly Adds QNX RTOS Support for FrontPanel/USB SDK

Portland, Oregon – September 6, 2012 – Opal Kelly, a leading producer of powerful FPGA modules that provide essential device-to-computer interconnect, using USB or PCI Express, announced the expansion of its FrontPanel cross-platform SDK family to the QNX Neutrino 6.5.0 real-time operating system. With QNX RTOS support, Opal Kelly continues its dedication to hardware platform design, by supporting languages and operating systems that engineers are most comfortable with. Opal Kelly FrontPanel API is now available for 13 OS/language combinations in addition to a shared object (DLL) extending it to nearly any common development environment. FrontPanel/USB for QNX, combined with Opal Kelly USB-based FPGA integration modules, deliver engineering efficiency that significantly accelerates hardware platform design.

Opal Kelly originally developed QNX support in response to several customers’ requests for FPGA deployment in real-time embedded systems. When compared to custom in-house development of an integrated FPGA solution, Opal Kelly estimates a 6-12 man-month savings in engineering development time, and between $80K – $200K in total development costs, not including maintenance and upgrades, over the lifetime of the product.

QNX Neutrino, the latest release of the QNX real-time operating system, was developed by QNX Software Systems Limited, a subsidiary of Research In Motion. For more information on QNX, please visit http://www.qnx.com.
