Presenting the XEM7310MT with Xilinx Artix-7 Transceivers and FrontPanel SDK

Press Release

Portland, Oregon – July 23, 2019 – Opal Kelly, a leading producer of powerful FPGA modules that provide essential device-to-computer interconnect using USB 2.0 and 3.0, announced the XEM7310MT USB 3.0 FPGA Module, combining a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface and a Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA in compact module form factor. The XEM7310MT USB interface delivers transfer rates exceeding 340MB/s and includes one high-speed gigabit transceiver with two bidirectional lanes. Artix-7 transceivers also support other serial standards such as PCI Express, DisplayPort, SATA, HD-SDI, XAUI, Aurora, and others operating at up to 3.75 Gb/s.

The XEM7310MT, measuring only 75mm x 60mm (2.95” x 2.36”), includes the FPGA, USB interface, 8 Gib DDR3, 32 MiB serial flash, 200 MHz low-jitter clock oscillator, and several switching power supplies to power the entire board from a single 5-volt external supply. The XEM7310MT fully supports Opal Kelly’s popular multi-platform FrontPanel SDK for FPGA configuration and host communication using a simple API in C/C++, C#, Python, Java, and Ruby programming languages.

Applications

Black Forest Engineering, now part of Luminar Technologies, has been an Opal Kelly customer since 2007 using their FPGA integration modules in several custom mixed signal ASIC programs. Opal Kelly’s FrontPanel SDK and off-the-shelf modules have enabled Black Forest Engineering to develop prototypes and test systems faster and with less engineering time than other approaches. A new LIDAR project has an immediate need for high-end transceiver-based data acquisition and engineers working with Black Forest are currently designing a new system with the XEM7310MT to meet their aggressive schedule.

The XEM7310MT is an excellent match for all three of the company’s target markets: Integration, Evaluation, and Acceleration. System integrators can build fully-operational prototype and production designs with custom mating peripherals for applications such as high-end test equipment, data acquisition, and custom imagery solutions. Manufacturers of high-speed devices such as JESD204B data acquisition chips can launch evaluation boards based on the XEM7310MT. The XEM7310MT is an ideal platform for demonstrating these devices to customers with a capable, compact system, and custom evaluation software built on the well-supported FrontPanel SDK. With ample logic resources, the higher-density XEM7310MT-A200 is also suited to signal processing and image processing for low-cost acceleration tasks when mated to image capture or data acquisition hardware.

Availability

The XEM7310MT is offered in two variations with differing FPGA densities. The XEM7310MT-A75 is available now for pre-order through Opal Kelly’s online web store at $589.95 (qty 1) with significant volume discounts. The XEM7310MT-A200 is also available for pre-order at $849.95 (qty 1) with the high-density FPGA.
